A possible tornado was spotted Monday afternoon southeast of Alberta's capital city.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) are investigating reports that a tornado touched down near Edberg, a small community south of Camrose that is about 125 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.

Erin Staunton, a meteorologist with ECCC, said there have been several reports of a tornado and "it does seem likely that a tornado touched down in the area."

A tornado watch was issued just before 3:30 for a large area stretching from south and east of Edmonton to the Saskatchewan border. Environment Canada, which issued the warning, said conditions "are favourable for the development of funnel clouds and possibly brief, weak tornadoes."
