The twitching of eyelids can mean many things, but for veteran Singapore actor Henry Thia, it’s a sign that he’s working too much.

It’s not that simple either. The twitching is actually a strange illness that Thia has suffered from for more than 10 years.

He made the reveal during his 72nd birthday celebration at a star-studded luncheon that local director Jack Neo hosted on Saturday (17 February). Shin Min Daily News reported that, while Thia was accepting the birthday wishes and praises from Neo for his performance in the hit movie "Money No Enough 3", he shared that the director always looks out for him.

“Like when my eyelid twitches (during filming), he’ll cut that scene out,” he said.

Fatigue from 'Money No Enough 3' promo activities

Speaking to the Chinese Daily, Thia confessed that he is tired out from all the promotional activities for "Money No Enough 3", and has a sore throat as well as a slight cough.

As for the twitching of his eyelid, he said, “It has been like this for more than 10 years. The doctor said that because of my age, it can't be completely cured unless I go for an operation. The right eyelid just twitches. It's fine when I’m not working too much, but the more I work, the more it twitches."

In order to alleviate his condition, Thia said he has to diligently do eyelid exercises and relax the muscles.

According to Mayo Clinic, the most common type of eyelid twitching (known as myokymia) is triggered by a few causes, including eye strain, fatigue, stress, alcohol intake or nicotine.
