Two civilians killed by landmine in Kharkiv Oblast field, one hospitalized

A landmine exploded in a field in Dovhenke village, Izyum district, Kharkiv Oblast, resulting in casualties governor Oleh Synehubov said on Telegram on Feb. 16.

Two men aged 25 and 50 died, and another 30-year-old man was hospitalized with a shrapnel wound, Synehubov said.

The mine threat in the Oblast remains high, the governor said, urging people to call 101 or 102 if they come across explosive objects.

As of January 2024, 174,000 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory are contaminated with Russian mines and unexploded ordnance, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

It will take Ukraine 757 years to de-mine landmine-contaminated territories using traditional methods and the currently available resources, GLOBSEC said on Nov. 2.
