Two men, aged 29 and 48, have been arrested for allegedly possessing and setting off fireworks on early Tuesday morning (6 November) near Little India.

Police spotted the fireworks along Gloucester Road at about midnight on Tuesday. Through ground enquiries, the police established the two men’s identities and arrested them on the same day.

Investigations are ongoing.

A video of the fireworks was posted on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante – SGRV. The video has since been shared over 5,300 times, with more than 230,000 views.

Netizens posted comments saying that the fireworks were probably in celebration of Deepavali, which fell on the same day.

Setting off fireworks in Singapore without obtaining prior permission from the authorities is illegal. Anyone convicted of discharging dangerous fireworks can be fined between $2,000 and $10,000, or jailed up to two years, or both.
