Ubisoft Singapore gets a new MD, office, and will hopefully ship the epically delayed Skull and Bones soon

If you're still waiting for Skull and Bones, it's coming... soon.

Outgoing managing director of Ubisoft Singapore Darryl Long has confirmed with Yahoo Gaming SEA that the studio's long-delayed pirate-themed action-adventure game, Skull and Bones, will be shipping before the end of the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

This means that players who have long been anticipating for Skull and Bones to be released will have to wait just a bit more before the game releases sometime between January to March 2024.

Long, who will be moving to Toronto to become Managing Director there, said this during the company's 15-year event at its swanky new 5,000 sq m office.

The upcoming release means that players worldwide will finally be able to take to the high seas sometime. This is no secret, given that this date range has been mentioned before in fiscal year reports, but having the MD of the studio confirming it publicly likely makes it a sure thing.

But whether players will like the game remains to be seen (you can check out our preview of the beta here). Ubisoft has stated multiple release dates previously (and had failed to release the game), with the last date in March 2023.

Long, who has been in charge of the Singapore office the last three years, took over the role after previous controversies over the game studio's reported issues. He was brought in to "the stable point" for the studio due to his experience in producing AAA titles.

In his final appearance as Singapore MD, Long stressed that the game studio had won awards for being one of the "best places to work".

Taking over the helm will be Jean-Francois Vallee, who currently oversees Ubisoft Shanghai. He will now be in charge of Ubisoft's offices in Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, and India come January 2024.

From Singapore, Vallee will be in charge of the studios in Singapore, Da Nang, Manila, Pune, Mumbai. He will do so from Ubisoft Singapore's new office, which has over 450 employees, of which 70 per cent are local hires.

The new office spans three levels and features collaboration spaces, recording studios, and dedicated playtesting areas. Vallee plans to expand the Singapore studio's AAA production core teams as well as pursue a "mobile strategy".

While the AAA Skull and Bones is the studio's flagship product, it has also contributed to the various Ubisoft franchises, such as the latest Assassin's Creed Mirage. It has also contributed to most of the Assassin's Creed franchise since Assassin's Creed II.

Skull and Bones is set to be released any time between January and March 2024. The game will be released on the PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
