JOHOR BAHRU – UDA Holdings Berhad (UDA), a leading property developer and asset management (property investment & management, hospitality and facility management), and a company under the purview of Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD) through its subsidiary, UDA Land South Sdn Bhd and Angsana Johor Bahru Mall has taken a step further in securing environment sustainability effort through signing of strategic Notes of Understanding (NoU) with the Johor Education Department (JPNJ), today.

Through the strategic understanding, UDA together with JPNJ will take the initiatives to implement activities that would raise awareness and responsibility towards environmental conservation and protection of natural resources among school members and local community. The NoU is set to benefitted both parties while serving its purpose in providing empowerment exercises and activities in accordance with Pelan Tindakan Pendidikan Kelestarian Johor. 

Datuk Sr Mohd. Salem Kailany, President/Chief Executive Officer of UDA said, “With this collaboration, UDA committed in contributing to raising sustainability knowledge and understanding among Johor school members and indirectly building up their capacity. This collaboration is also carried out in support for Pelan Tindakan Pendidikan Kelestarian Johor and Johor Sustainable Development Plan 2030 on school level,” he said.

The NoU also focuses on the effort to oversee the involvement and implementation of sustainability education programs while coordinating schools’ carbon footprint. Concurrently, it also adheres to the local mission in raising awareness, support and motivation for reducing carbon footprint among locals. 

The strategic collaboration between UDA and JPNJ fulfilled five out of nine Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) which are being implemented by UDA and globally recognized. The five goals are (3) Good Health and Well-Being, (5) Gender Equality, (6) Clean Water and Sanitation, (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities and (13) Climate Action.

The effort is also concurrent with UDA’s new brand, ‘L.I.F.E’, an acronym to Legacy, Integrated, Finesse, and Enrich which implemented across all business streams. All this while continuing UDA’s legacy by giving attention to environment conservation and preservation while at same time raising awareness on the healthy and balanced ecosystem. 

Through the signing of the NoU, UDA provided grants to four ‘UDA Sustainability Schools’, schools that have been selected to carry out variety of sustainability activities including used cooking oil collection, used clothes collection, tree planting or gardening and others. The schools are Sekolah Kebangsaan Kompleks UDA, Sekolah Kebangsaan Bandar UDA 2, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar UDA Utama and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru UDA. Each received RM5,000 for the activities. 

Other activities that will be carried out with the four UDA Sustainability Schools are Johor Sustainability Education Award Day 2024, training workshop based on experiential learning, Experiential Learning – Guru Champion, welfare activities such as donation to asnaf during Ramadan and capacity development workshop Guru Champion UDA, where the teachers will participate in four series of workshops on environmental sustainability management.

The NoU signing ceremony took place today in UDA Land South Sdn Bhd main office at Wisma SBBU, Bandar Baru UDA, Johor Bahru, Johor. Signing the document was Encik Muhammad Ismail Dasuki, Chief Operating Officer, UDA Land South Sdn Bhd and Tuan Haji Mohd Hanafi Samad, Director of Johor Education Department while witnessed by Datuk Sr Mohd. Salem Kailany, President/Chief Executive Officer UDA, YB Tuan Aznan Tamin, Johor Education, Information and Communication Committee Chairman and senior management of UDA and JPNJ.
