The performance of Russian prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova, originally from Ukraine, with the Modans project in Slovenia, has been canceled due to Ukraine's protest, the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry said on June 11.

The cancellation of the Bolshoi Theater's prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova, who supports Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the war against Ukraine, was achieved through the combined efforts of the Ukrainian Embassy in Slovenia, Slovenian state institutions, and the Ukrainian community in Slovenia. They successfully blocked the Russian ballerina from performing at the Ljubljana Festival in the capital.

This isn't the first time Ukraine and its communities have successfully canceled performances by Russian cultural representatives worldwide. In March, the Bolshoi Theater ballet performance in South Korea, which included Zakharova, was canceled.

Zakharova, born in 1979 in the Ukrainian city of Lutsk, graduated from the Kyiv Choreographic School. She began her ballet career at the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg. Since 2007, Zakharova has been a member of the United Russia political party and served as a State Duma MP for two terms. In March 2014, she signed a letter supporting Putin's policy on the Russian military intervention in Ukraine. Since January 2023, she has been under sanctions by the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council for anti-Ukrainian activities.
