Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in France to participate in the 80th anniversary commemoration of the Normandy landings, Le Figaro reported on June 6.

Upon landing at Caen-Carpiquet International Airport, he expressed the importance of the meetings he will hold during the event in strengthening Ukraine and defending the freedom of Europe.

"The Allies defended the freedom of Europe then, the Ukrainians are defending the freedom of Europe now. Unity won then, and true unity can win now,” he wrote in his Telegram post.

World leaders are in France on June 6 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Allies landing in Normandy - one of the key operations that changed the tide of World War II.

Memorial events will be held in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer — not far from where the Americans landed on Omaha Beach.

The United Kingdom's King Charles III, U.S. President Joe Biden, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are among the world leaders attending the ceremony.

Among the invited participants are King Charles III of the United Kingdom, U.S. President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and other world leaders.

During his visit, Zelenskyy is expected to have a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, where potential plans for the deployment of French instructors to Ukraine may be announced. He will also meet with French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu and visit a plant belonging to the KNDS arms group, which produces artillery ammunition for Ukraine, near Paris.

Zelenskyy will also meet with Biden.

The U.S. President combined his trip to Normandy with his first state visit to France, the main part of which will be held on June 8.
