"Unakkenna Venum Sollu" opens in 150 cinemas in India
25 Sep – Singaporean executive producer N Shanmuga Sundaram's horror thriller, "Unakkenna Venum Sollu", has received a 150-screen release in India.
This marks the first time for a Singapore-made Tamil movie to be screened in Chennai, Mysore and Kerala, according to The Economic Times.
For its release in Andhra Pradesh, the movie, helmed by Sri Lankan director Srinath Ramalingam, will be dubbed in Telugu.
Filming for the movie took place between July and September last year in Chennai, with a budget of approximately SGD 400,000. Actors Deepak Paramesh and Jaqlene Prakash of India as well as Gunalan Morgan from Singapore star in the movie.
Sundaram and Ramalingam received a SGD 39,000 grant from Singapore's Media Development Authority in order to make the movie. According to The Straits Times, the idea for the movie came up when a short story about the spirit of an eight-year-old who disturbs two families, written by Madurai writer MRK, caught the attention of Sundaram.
The movie follows Pooja and Shiva who take their son Abhi, who suffers from a rare disease, for treatment in Chennai. When the family experience ghostly presence in their house, they turn to Matthew for help. The sorcerer finds out the spirit is of a restless young girl who wants more than just revenge, she wants to know why her parents abandoned her.
