Uniqlo to open largest Singapore outlet at Iluma

Japan-based casual wear brand Uniqlo is set to open its largest store in Singapore (pictured) at Iluma@Bugis on 8 June.

"Uniqlo's presence (in Bugis) will make the brand even more accessible to people especially the younger set," said Satoshi Onoguchi, Managing Director of Uniqlo Singapore and Malaysia.

"We see a lot of the mix-and-match fashion among the teens who hang around the Bugis area, hence Uniqlo opening in the area complements our philosophy since the crowd has a very street style and mix-and-match vibe which is what Uniqlo is about."

The double-storey retail outlet will have a total area of 200 sq ft and will include an in-store escalator linking the two floors.

Uniqlo opened its first Singapore outlet in 2009 at Tampines 1. Since then, it has opened several stores in the country including at 313@Somerset, Parkway Parade, Vivocity, ION Orchard and Causeway Point.

Onoguchi said they are "excited to be able to open a Uniqlo store in Iluma and one that is the largest store in Singapore to date."

"Being located at the Bugis area makes the place very ideal as the district is a key shopping destination."

Currently, Illuma is undergoing a makeover and tenants on its first and second levels (which will include Uniqlo) are slated to re-open by mid-2012.
