The registers of voters have been revised ahead of the Presidential Election in September and are open for public inspection from Tuesday (20 June) to 3 July 2017, the Elections Department said in a press release on Monday.

The updated registers include the names of all qualified electors as of 1 June 2017. A person is qualified as a voter if he or she is a Singapore Citizen, at least 21 years old, not disqualified as an elector under any current law and has a Singapore residential address or local voting address for those living overseas.

Singaporean citizens in Singapore may check their particulars online at the Elections Department website, in person at community centres or clubs with their NRIC or passport, or at the Elections Department with the same identification documents.

Those who are overseas may check their details at Singapore overseas missions that serve as overseas registration centres with either their NRIC or passport.

The inspection enables citizens to submit claims to include their names if they have been omitted or to update personal details. A citizen can also submit an objection to remove his or her name from the registers. Claims and objections may be done through the same channels the checks are done.

Those whose names were removed from the registers for failing to vote at previous elections can apply to have their names restored so they can vote for future elections.

Applications for restorations will not be processed from the day the Writ for an election is issued until after Nomination Day if the election is not contested, or until after Polling Day if a poll is to be taken.

As for overseas Singaporeans whose names are listed in the registers of electors, they may apply to vote at one of the designated overseas polling stations provided they have lived in Singapore for at least 30 days in total during the three-year period between 1 June 2014 and 31 May 2017.

Following the revision of the registers, Singaporeans abroad who had registered earlier as overseas electors will need to re-register if they meet the qualifying criteria as of 1 June 2017 and wish to remain as overseas electors.

The Elections Department said it encourages Singaporeans abroad to register early. Applications will not be processed from the third day after the Writ for an election is issued until after Nomination Day if the election is contested, or until after Polling Day if a poll is to be taken.
