URA calls for ideas for forgotten spaces

The Urban Redevelopment Authority is calling for ideas on how to transform underused or overlooked pockets of public spaces such as forgotten backlanes, hidden laneways and spaces between buildings, the government announced Thursday (14 May).

Called My Ideas for Public Spaces, the competition will serve as inspiration for future PubliCity programmes, with up to 10 winners winning S$1,000 cash each.

According to URA, the public should also consider how their ideas relate to the surrounding context, and whether they can be easily implemented and sustained in the long run.

URA chief executive officer Ng Lang said:With the spotlight turning to forgotten spaces this year, we hope the public can apply the same inventiveness to turn these overlooked spaces into delightful, meaningful ones that the community can enjoy.

Participants who are interested in this years competition can submit their entries by hand or mail between 14 May and 26 June. The winning entries will be announced later this year.
