Venezuela's opposition presented 1.85 million signatures to election authorities Monday calling for a referendum to remove President Nicolas Maduro, a spokesman said. Jesus Torrealba, the executive secretary of the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), said on Twitter that organizers had handed over 80 boxes of referendum petitions to the National Electoral Board, the first step in the process of calling a vote to remove the unpopular socialist president.
