Stars have been sending their messages of condolence after chart-topper died aged 46

Vernon Kay has led tributes paid to S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole following his death.

The TV presenter admitted his sadness at the untimely loss of Cattermole, 46, as he remembered spending time with him when he was starting out in showbiz.

Taking to Twitter to share his emotions Kay wrote: “This is so very sad. From when I first started in TV all the way through CBBC, T4, TOTP, smash hits poll winners Paul and Sclub were always there. He always had time for a chat. RIP.”

Fellow TV host Rylan Clark also shared his upset on hearing the tragic news as he replied to a post from the official S Club 7 Twitter page announcing the news.

He shared: "Sending all the love to you all xxx".

Meanwhile, socialite Lizzie Cundy offered her prayers to Cattermole's loved ones as she spoke of her shock at the news.

She posted: "So shocked and sad to hear S Club 7 Paul Cattermole has passed away. Such a lovely guy. All my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends #RestInPeace."

TV host Lorraine Kelly spoke of a "gentle and shy," young man she interviewed many times as she offered her own tribute.

She said: "This is so sad. Lovely man and he was so looking forward to the #sclub7 reunion. Interviewed them all many times and was struck by how gentle and shy he was."

Music industry expert Nicki Chapman posted: "Just heard the terribly sad news about Paul from @SClub7. I have such fond memories of working with him over the years. My thoughts go to his family and the band."

Broadcaster India Willoughby offered: "Omg. Such sad news. Paul was always my favourite. Cheeky smile. Be with the brightest stars now. Love and condolences to all his family and friends."

Cattermole was confirmed to have died in a statement released by the band on Friday (7 April). His body was discovered in his Dorset home and police believe there are "no suspicious circumstances" surrounding the death.

A statement from S Club 7 said: "We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel.

"We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.

"He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time."
