Veronica Shiu crowned Miss Hong Kong 2014

3 Sep – 24-year-old student from Canada, Veronica Shiu, has recently been crowned the new Miss Hong Kong.

According to Sina News, the pageant hopeful beat other contestants to win the coveted title at the 2014 Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant held on 31 August, while winning both Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality as well.

Veronica, who aspires to become a renowned performer in Hong Kong, stated previously that she was very concentrated in her performance on stage. "Just like how Michael Jackson performed."

"When I'm not performing, I feel comfortable in my own skin and can smile at ease. I'm very confident with myself," said the newly reigning queen, who won the title with 156,191 votes from the judges and viewers.

Standing at 5 feet 5 inches, Veronica, who enjoys jogging, dancing and yoga in her spare time, wowed the judges with her elegance and charm, as well as her talent in dance.

When asked what she gained the most from participating in the pageant, Veronica replied, "I am now more fluent in Cantonese and more poised on stage."

On the other hand, contestant number 9, Erin Wong was named first runner-up with 28,894 votes, while number 7, Katherine Ho grabbed the third spot with 24,903 votes.
