All About Victoria Beckham's Parents, Jackie and Anthony Adams
Jackie and Anthony Adams were married in 1971 and have three children together
Victoria Beckham’s parents have undoubtedly influenced her life and success.
The British designer and Spice Girls alum famously insisted that she came from a “working class” family in the 2023 Netflix documentary series Beckham, though in the now-viral clip she conceded that her father did indeed drive her to school in a Rolls Royce.
Born in Essex, England in 1974, Victoria is the eldest daughter of Jackie and Anthony Adams. While her parents came from modest beginnings, they found success in creating their own electronics supply company.
“My dad worked really hard to have the money for us to have a nice house,” Victoria told Vogue in 2017. She also shared, “My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything. Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it.”
Following in her family’s entrepreneurial footsteps, Victoria has launched multiple successful businesses including her eponymous fashion line and her cosmetics line Victoria Beckham Beauty. She married soccer star David Beckham in 1999 and the couple share sons Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, Cruz Beckham, Romeo Beckham and daughter Harper.
Here’s everything to know about Victoria Beckham's parents, Jackie and Anthony Adams.
They were married in 1970 and have three children
Jackie and Anthony were married in 1970 and welcomed their first child, Victoria, in 1974. They went on to have two more children, daughter Louise and son Christian and raised their family in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire in the U.K.
In 2022, Victoria shared a tribute to her parent on their 52nd wedding anniversary via Instagram. “Happy anniversary!! 52 years!!” she captioned a pair of photos of the couple. “We love you both so much!!! Your marriage is an inspiration to us every day.”
They founded a business together
Jackie worked as an insurance clerk and hairdresser while Anthony was an electronics engineer. Later, they founded an electrical supply business together.
During the 1980s tech boom, the company found massive success and helped the family build their fortune.
They built up their family home
Now an affluent neighborhood, Victoria’s hometown of Goffs Oak was much more rural when she was a child. Jackie and Anthony purchased the family home over 40 years ago and have built additions over the years.
“They bought it as a shell and did it all themselves,” Victoria told Vogue during a tour of her parent’s house in 2017. “I remember my mum cooking on a camping stove because we didn’t have a proper kitchen.”
“Never would I have thought all those years ago that Vogue would be shooting me at my parents’ house,” she added.
Anthony drove a Rolls Royce in the ‘80s
In a now-viral moment from their Netflix docuseries, Beckham, Victoria tells cameras that she and David come from “very working class families.”
David then pokes his head into the room and playfully interrupts the interview by asking, “Be honest. What car did your dad drive you to school in?” After some back and forth, Victoria admits that her dad drove a Rolls Royce in the 1980s.
In response to the internet’s frenzy over the clip, Victoria created a t-shirt with the slogan “My Dad had a Rolls Royce,” released by her fashion label.
“I can’t fight it anymore, yes my dad drove me to school in a Rolls Royce! 😂 Kisses @David Beckham,” the designer captioned a TikTok video promoting the item.
Jackie was strict about Victoria’s clothing as a teenager
Victoria told Vogue that as a teenager, Jackie refused to let her dress like her fashion idol, Sandy from the movie-musical Grease.
“Did I have a perm that was slightly distasteful? Yes. Did I wear strange jeans? Yes. Did I look inappropriate ever? Not until the Spice Girls,” she told the outlet in 2017. “My mum would never let me go out dressed like that.”
Jackie was less strict about makeup, though. Victoria also recalled her mother dabbing lipstick on her cheeks as a cream blush because she thought her daughter looked too pale.
They taught Victoria about business and finances
Jackie and Anthony’s business savvy inevitably tricked down to Victoria. The designer said that she and her siblings were involved in the business and often helped their parents pack orders in the living room.
“We were always part of what they were doing,” Victoria told Vogue in 2017.
They also taught Victoria to be financially responsible. The fashion designer explained to Vogue that she had a part-time job at a hardware store, they instructed her to put half of her wages into a separate bank account “for tax.”
“They don’t teach you that at school,” Victoria added.
They empowered Victoria to achieve her dreams
Victoria has credited her parents with encouraging her to achieve her goals.
“My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything,” she told Vogue in 2017. “Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it. He’d say, what do you mean you can’t do it? Why? Why? And I do that to my own children as well.”
Jackie and Anthony also remain proud of their daughter’s music career. At their home in Goffs Oak, they have a shed where they store 3,000 scrapbooks filled with Spice Girls cuttings and memorabilia.
They love spending time with their grandchildren
Victoria often enjoys family outings with her parents. In December 2023, she posted a series of Instagram photos from a night out with David and their children well as Jackie and Anthony.
“Special night with my family. I love you all so much x,” she captioned the photos, which appeared to be taken at restaurant.
In her 2017 Vogue interview, the designer said that the family also likes to spend time at Jackie and Anthony’s home.
“My mum and dad are happiest when we’re all here,” she told the outlet.
