Video Shows Moment Delta Plane Caught Fire at Seattle Airport

Passengers were forced to make a quick escape after the nose area of their Delta Airlines aircraft caught fire while parked at the gate on Monday evening, May 6, at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Video released by the Port of Seattle shows the moment the area near the cockpit of the plane caught fire after the flight arrived from Cancun, Mexico. In the video, passengers can be seen evacuating the plane on its emergency slides.

The plane’s crew had reported “a possible fire caused by the ground power unit” while parked at the gate, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement posted online. Officials said the fire was sparked by a short in an electric cord after the aircraft was connected to electric power, local outlet KOMO News reported.

Officials said there were no major injuries, the outlet reported. Credit: Port of Seattle via Storyful
