“The View” star says Joe Biden exceeded expectations by not dying during State of the Union address
Alyssa Farah Griffin said an ad from Donald Trump's campaign did Biden a "huge favor" by making it seem like "he's going to keel over and die."
The View's resident Swiftie, face cream visionary, and former Donald Trump staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin said she considers Joe Biden not dying during Thursday's State of the Union address a major win for the president's campaign.
Joy Behar kicked off the Hot Topics conversation by calling Biden's SOTU address "fabulous," and speculated that Trump — for whom Griffin worked until resigning from his administration in 2020 — was "just going nuts watching it" from home.
Griffin, a Republican, called the performance an "objectively good night" for the current president, and said that it was the first time she felt like "he could beat Donald Trump in November."
Still, Griffin made a hilarious observation about Biden's age in response to a Trump-backed ad that posed the question, "Can Biden even survive until 2029?" in a targeted criticism of the 81-year-old's age.
"The Trump camp did him a huge favor by setting expectations so low. They put out this ad the morning of that basically is like, he's going to keel over and die," Griffin said. "So, by not tipping over at the dais, he was already outperforming expectations."
The ladies of The View have long discussed Biden's age during the election cycle, with Behar, who is also 81, speaking out against ageist critics who've questioned the president's fitness to serve by comparing his tenure to her own trajectory on the talk show.
"Joe Biden and I are the same age. Would you say I could not do my job for the next four years? Of course I can," Behar said on the show in February 2023, as the audience applauded. "And the haters can go stick their heads in something, because I'm not moving out of this seat."
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
