Views sought on future of 'unsafe' skate park

A council is calling for community groups to have their say on the future of a park which had been deemed "unsafe".

Torbay Council said it was working with groups to determine a "new future" for the site of Victoria Park's skate park.

The Paignton park was closed in December due to health and safety concerns.

Assessments concluded the park was "beyond repair", the authority said.

'Improve facilities'

The park was fenced off but the council said people were getting through the barriers, so equipment would need to be removed "to avoid the risk of serious harm".

It said a meeting was due to take place on 10 July for people to discuss what could be done.

People’s Parkfield CIC, which runs the skate park, said: "We are sorry to learn that the Victoria Park skatepark is being removed.

"Currently the skate park at Parkfield may not be a suitable alternative for very young children and we are very happy to contribute to any discussions about what could be done to improve the facilities for children and young people in the Victoria Park area."

The space will be left as a flat open area until the council determines what the public would like to see there.

The equipment is scheduled to removed from Monday.
