Vigil bosses Tom Edge and Jake Lushington have responded to the show's inaccuracies and "mistakes".

The BBC One procedural drama returned for its second season on December 10, following DCI Amy Silva (Doctor Foster's Suranne Jones) as she investigates the world of drone warfare when multiple murders take place at a Scottish military base.

While there are some inaccuracies in the show when it comes to military insignia among other things, Edge and Lushington have revealed that many of them are entirely intentional.

During a Q&A prior to season two's launch, Edge explained how they've had advice from experts who have "done the roles or served" on both seasons of the show.

"We take that seriously. Sometimes we get the pushback of, 'Oh, you've got the buttons wrong'. But we actually have to get the buttons wrong for copyright reasons," he added.

Addressing the inaccurate military insignia, Lushington said: "It says 'British Air Force' rather than 'Royal Air Force' because we are a drama. We fictionalise intentionally.

"Some people sometimes think that's a mistake. But actually we've done that so that the audience can have some point of difference from a documentary."

He continued: "But beyond that, we do as much research and talk to as many people as possible. And sometimes they won't be able to tell us things, but we can ask if we're right or not."

Edge went on to recall his "favourite, incredibly fair minded response" to season one, saying: "A rear admiral was asked to comment on the veracity of it and said all of the things that are in the show either have happened or could happen, but perhaps not in one week."

While Lushington further stressed how they do have advisors, he added that "the formal relationship with those organisations tends to be a bit more distant".

"We're not actively making this with any of those organisations directly. We let them know that we're doing it, but MI5 doesn't really want to talk to us and that is probably a good thing."

Vigil season 2 airs on BBC One and on iPlayer.
