Vigil's Suranne Jones teases season 2 plot
Vigil star Suranne Jones has teased plot details for the second season of the BBC police drama.
Taking place on a submarine, season one followed Jones' DCI Amy Silva as she investigated a suspicious death on board the nuclear-powered vessel.
Appearing on tonight's (May 16) The One Show, Jones told hosts Lauren Laverne and Jermaine Jenas that filming had already begun on the follow-up to the record-breaking series.
"I'm going back to Scotland tomorrow, to film some in Glasgow. And we're filming in Glasgow and Morocco, and then back into Glasgow," Jones said.
Teasing fans with what's to come, Jones said that there will be no submarines in season two — a change she said she welcomes.
"But there's no submarines, which I'm thrilled about because that was hardcore and it was in the middle of COVID," she said. "It's all in the skies, that was under the water and now we're looking up to the skies."
In season two, Jones will be joined by Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie as detective Kirsten Longacre. The two characters will investigate multiple fatalities at a Scottish military base.
Considering the change in scenery, Vigil's next instalment will feature a mostly new cast that also includes Batwoman's Dougray Scott and Sex Education's Chris Jenks.
During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show late last year, Jones opened up about filming in confined spaces, confirming that season two would involve a different location.
"There will be another [season]" she said. "But it won’t be with submarines. She [Jones' character, Amy Silva] kept getting locked in places and everybody kept dying, so it will take place somewhere else."
"That was [scary], yeah. I was submerged in the tube," she revealed. "I think you forget that you can, at any moment, say: 'Can I get out?' You get so into it – that's why stunt people should do stunts and actors shouldn't."
Vigil airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
