Vincent D'Onofrio to play villain in 'Daredevil'

The former "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" star will appear opposite Charlie Cox in the Netflix series about the blind Marvel superhero. The adaptation is scheduled to debut on the online platform in 2015.

Vincent D'Onofrio has joined the cast of "Daredevil" in the role of Wilson Fisk, the gangster better known as the Kingpin in the Marvel universe. The organized crime boss will cross paths with Matt Murdock, a lawyer by day and a superhero with uncannily heightened senses by night.

Created by Stan Lee in 1967, the Kingpin was originally an antagonist to Spider-Man. In the 1980s, Frank Miller brought the tall and portly character back for a face-off with Daredevil. More recently, in Mark Steven Johnson's 2003 film adaptation of "Daredevil" starring Ben Affleck, the Kingpin was played by Michael Clarke Duncan ("The Green Mile"), who died in 2012.

After turning "Daredevil" into a 13-episode miniseries, which will be available to its subscribers next year, Netflix plans to give the same treatment to three other Marvel superheroes: Jessica Jones, the Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
