The voices of "Home"
Based on the book "The True Meaning of Smekday" by Adam Rex, "Home" takes place when an alien race called the Boovs are searching for a new home planet that will be their refuge from their fearsome enemy. Led by their leader, Captain Smek, the Boovs invade and conquer the Earth, while relocating its human inhabitants to another planet. When a teenager manages to escape from the Boovs, she bumps into an exiled Boov, who must clear his name and warn his people about their fate on this new planet.
Before the Boovs crash land to our "Home" at local cinemas on 26 March, here's a quick guide of the humans and aliens that you will find in "Home".
Gratuity "Tip" Tucci
Nicknamed "Tip" by her friends, Gratuity Tucci has been living together with her mother, Lucy, until the Boovs invaded Earth. A spunky, smart and fearless teenager, she gets separated from her mother when the Boovs invaded and was living on her own since, until she stumbles onto Oh, who has been exiled from his own people. Tip intends to reunite with her mother before she is relocated by the Boovs and takes Oh along for the ride of their lives.
Rihanna takes on her first voice acting role as Tip, and also produced a concept album for "Home". Tip also has the honours of being the first African American protagonist in a Dreamworks animation.
Oh
His brilliance with technology is only matched by the amount of annoyance that he brings to his fellow Boovs, who gave him his name from their grunting disdain of his presence. After committing far too many mistakes of helping the Boovs to secure their new home, Oh is forced to hide on Earth when the Boovs attack it. While trying to mend the mistakes that he has made, Oh has also unwittingly led the Boov's greatest fears to their new home planet and goes on an adventure with Tip to save the world.
Voiced by Jim Parsons, best known for his role as the geeky Sheldon Cooper in "Big Bang Theory", In the book, Oh's original name was coincidentally called J Lo and was changed incidentally.
Lucy Tucci
Lucy is Tip's mother and has raised her as a single mom. Tip means everything to her. Recently moving into the big city with her daughter, they both were beginning to experience new things in their lives when the Boovs came. Lucy gets separated from her daughter, who manages to escape and is on her way to being relocated by the aliens.
Jennifer Lopez voices Lucy, and also sings the theme song "Feel the Light".
Captain Smek
As a nomadic race, Captain Smek has been the leader of the Boovs in their search for a new home planet. Although there have been many failed discoveries, the Boovs still look to Captain Smek with reverence. Sometimes he is called The Wise / Brave / Amazing / Fashion-Forward Captain Smek; titles which he takes in good grace because he loves it when others feed his ego.
Fitting that he should be voiced by comedian Steve Martin, who has been had a voice acting role since 1998's "Prince of Egypt".
Kyle
Kyle is a Boov Traffic Cop that has lived an miserable existence. When Oh escapes to Earth and goes into hiding, Kyle is ordered by Captain Smek to bring back the fugitive to face judgment. Kyle is voiced by Matt Jones, who previously was the voice of Drip in "Planes: Fire and Rescue".
He is most famously known as Badger in the "Breaking Bad" TV series and most recently in the "Mom" TV series as Baxter.
