The Walking Dead has released a trailer for The Ones Who Live, teasing the reunion of Rick and Michonne.

The latest spin-off of the zombie franchise is bringing back Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira after years away, and footage has premiered during New York Comic-Con.

Although we don't see the two together, we got to see both Rick and Michonne lit in moody red with some dramatic smoke surrounding them, as brief flashes of both of them fighting off the hordes of the undead. We also Rick covered in blood and looking absolutely exhausted.

"I tried to get away," Rick says in voiceover. "Please know I tried. I tried but I failed. Just know I love you."

It was also revealed at the convention (via Deadline) that Lost's Terry O’Quinn has been cast as a character named Beale, actor Matt Jeffries will play someone named Nat, and Pollyanna McIntosh will be back as Jadis from The Walking Dead.

Previously announced casting for the show includes Lesley-Ann Brandt as a survivor named Pearl.

Earlier this year, at a different Comic-Con, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed that he wanted to kill Rick Grimes early off in the show to deviate from his comics.

"I was an absolute lunatic. I would get in the writers' room and be like, 'Kill Rick Grimes today! I don't care! It'll be funny! People will freak out, and it'll be fun!' The writers were like, 'Robert, you're crazy. We can't do that'.

It would make this spin-off/continuation more difficult if Rick was dead, wouldn't it?

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will premiere in February 2024 on AMC and AMC+ in the United States. Its parent show can be streamed on AMC and Netflix in the US and STAR on Disney+ in the UK.
