Wally Baram, Mary Beth Barone, Adam DiMarco & Rish Shah Join Prime Video’s ‘Overcompensating’ As Series Regulars; Four Others Aboard As Recurring
EXCLUSIVE: Wally Baram (What We Do in the Shadows), Mary Beth Barone (Black Mirror), Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus), and Rish Shah (The Sweet East) have been tapped for series regular roles in Prime Video and A24’s new comedy series Overcompensating from creator Benito Skinner, who leads the ensemble.
These aren’t the only new additions, we’ve learned, as Holmes (Welcome to Flatch), Corteon Moore (From), Owen Thiele (Theater Camp) and Nell Verlaque (Thanksgiving) are now aboard in recurring roles.

Baram plays Carmen, a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs in college, who becomes fast friends with Benny (Skinner) at orientation. Barone plays Benny’s older sister, Grace, who has blossomed in college and loves managing Benny, with DiMarco as Grace’s boyfriend, Peter, who looks out for Benny. Shah portrays Miles, a cute, mysterious freshman who catches Benny’s eye right away.
Holmes plays Hailee, Carmen’s wild and iconic army brat roommate with a heart of gold. Moore portrays Gabe, the alpha best friend of DiMarco’s Peter and fellow member of the prestigious F&G secret society. Thiele plays George, a confident, out, gay sophomore at Yates who wants to help Benny come out, with Verlaque as Emily, a fellow Yates freshman and the coolest, prettiest girl from Carmen’s hometown.
Also written and exec produced by Skinner, Overcompensating is a college-set ensemble comedy about the wild, chaotic journey of Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, watching as he becomes fast friends with Carmen (Baram), a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs. With guidance from Benny’s older sister (Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend (DiMarco), Benny and Carmen juggle horrible hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs. The show explores the lengths to which we all overcompensate while on the path to finding out who we really are.
In addition to Skinner, EPs include Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin for Strong Baby. Charli XCX will serve as executive music producer for the series produced by A24 and Amazon MGM Studios.
A stand-up comic, writer, and actress, who also serves as a supervising producer on Overcompensating, Baram previously produced Netflix’s Neon and co-produced Apple’s Shrinking. Additionally, she’s written on the series What We Do in the Shadows, Betty, and Sprung. Previously named a Just For Laughs New Face, she made her late-night debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Skinner’s co-host for the podcast Ride, Barone is a comedian, writer and actor who has been seen in Netflix’s Black Mirror and the Oscar-shortlisted short The Anne Frank Gift Shop. Her feature script You’re My Best Friend was featured on the 2022 Black List, with her first stand-up special Thought Provoking premiering on YouTube earlier this year.
Best known for starring in Season 2 of HBO’s The White Lotus, DiMarco has also been seen on series like The Magicians, When We Rise, and The Order. Other credits include Date & Switch, Words and Pictures, and Disney’s Radio Rebel.
Previously, Shah has been seen on series like Ms. Marvel and Obsession. Feature credits include The Sweet East, Do Revenge and Sitting in Bars with Cake. Most recently, he wrapped the Netflix film Joy opposite Thomasin McKenzie and Bill Nighy.
A comedian, improviser, actor, and writer, Holmes is best known for starring on Fox’s Welcome to Flatch, and will also soon be seen in Paul Feig’s Amazon pic Jackpot.
Moore stars on MGM+’s From and will next be seen in Natasha Kermani’s feature Abraham’s Boys.
Most recently seen in the Sundance prize winner Theater Camp distributed by Searchlight, Thiele has also been recently been tapped to star in Snowflakes, a pilot for FX directed by Jonathan Krisel.
Verlaque has been seen in Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving and Lifetime’s Secrets in a Small Town, as well as CBS’s Bull and Disney+’s Big Shot.
