Warner Bros Closes First-Look Feature Film Deal With LuckyChap After ‘Barbie’ Oscar Noms

Warner Bros Motion Picture Group is making sure the producer of the studio’s highest-grossing movie of all time, Barbie, isn’t going anywhere.

Studio bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy have closed a multiyear first-look feature film deal with LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara on future projects. The news follows the $1.45 billion global-grossing Barbie notching eight Oscar nominations, as well as Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media Grammy wins for Billie Eilish and Finneas’ single “What Was I Made For?” in addition to two Golden Globe wins.

Among the Oscars, Barbie is up for are Best Picture, the original songs “I’m Just Ken” (Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt) and “What Was I Made For?”, Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling), Supporting Actress (America Ferrera), Costume Design, Production Design and Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s Adapted Screenplay.

Warner Bros post-strike has hammered some prolific talent deals including a first look with Jon M. Chu’s Electric Somewhere Co, which we first told you about, and a strategic partnership with Tom Cruise.
