Warren sings Taylor Swift song after jokingly confirming conspiracy
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is borrowing a line from Taylor Swift to jokingly offer a tongue-in-cheek confirmation about political conspiracy theories involving the singer: “Haters gonna hate.”
The Massachusetts Democrat appeared on CBS’s “The Late Show” on Monday and was immediately asked by host Stephen Colbert about the “Anti-Hero” singer.
Swift — who won two Grammy awards Sunday and has been in the spotlight for her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — has been at the center of a political media firestorm, with some Republicans accusing the singing superstar of being a “psy-op.”
The conspiracy theorists on the right have floated, without evidence, the idea that the outcome of this weekend’s Super Bowl will be rigged so the Chiefs win, setting up Swift for maximum exposure to potentially endorse President Biden’s reelection bid.
Mentioning Swift’s Grammy wins, Colbert asked Warren, “Was that Phase One of the Democrats’ deep-state plan for the Chiefs?”
“You bet!” Warren exclaimed with a laugh.
“You bet,” the 74-year-old lawmaker repeated, before breaking out the chorus of Swift’s 2014 hit, “Shake it Off.”
“And all I can say to Donald Trump is: Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate,” Warren sang.
