Watch Drew Carey marvel as “Price Is Right” contestant makes 'best Showcase bid in the history of the show'

Almost doesn't count... except on "The Price Is Right."

For today's Showcase Showdown winner, the price wasn't exactly right — but it was pretty freaking close.

On Friday's episode of The Price Is Right, contestant Patrice Masse from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, made it all the way to the Showcase Showdown, where he placed a bid of $39,500 on a package including a trip to Miami and a car. What happened next surprised even host Drew Carey. After taking a look at the actual retail price, Carey took a few surprised steps backwards and stared, mouth open, at the card in his hand. "So, let me tell ya..." he began, as the crowd whooped with anticipation. "Thirty-nine thousand, five-oh-ONE."

Current Price Is Right rules state that any contestant whose Showcase bid comes within $250 without going over wins both packages — a rare distinction known as the "Double Showcase Winner." Watch the big reveal, and Masse's stunned reaction, above.

Masse's spectacular guess, which Carey called "the best Showcase bid in the history of the show," earned him $83,068 in prizes, which is the highest double showcase win of the season, according to CBS. His loot includes: A Kia K5 GT-Line; trips to Milan, Hawaii, and Miami; a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 motorcycle; and apparel from Versace, Gucci, and Coach. Masse's wife, Tina, rushed on stage to celebrate with her husband.

"Off by a dollar!" Carey marveled. "With absolutely no help from anybody audience, by the way." Perhaps we should change the old saying to, "Almost doesn't count, except in horseshoes and hand grenades — and The Price is Right."
