Watch Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore make Shakira take a polygraph test to see if her hips really do lie
The television hosts tried to read the signs of Shakira's body for clues.
Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore are finding out once and for all if Shakira’s hips really don’t lie.
As part of The Tonight Show's hilarious cold open on Monday, the two television hosts teamed up to make the Grammy-winning singer take a polygraph test — with its sensors, naturally, placed on her hips — to see whether Shakira was telling the truth on her 2005 song, “Hips Don’t Lie.”
“Everything hooked up?” Fallon asks Barrymore in the clip. When given the all clear, he dramatically adds, “You know what to do, Shakira.”
A resigned Shakira then begins to sway her hips to the song as Fallon and Barrymore furiously read the signs of her body through the machine's results. “It checks out,” Barrymore concludes, “They’re telling the truth.”
"Hips don't lie," Fallon adds. In response, Shakira simply answers, “Told ya.”
The “She Wolf” singer sat down for an interview with Fallon later in the program, where she explained the meaning behind the title of her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, or “women no longer cry.”
“It’s men’s turn now,” Shakira declares. “We’ve done that for too long, you know? For too long, we’ve been sent to cry with a script in our hands and without an end just because we’re women. We have to conceal our pain in front of our kids, in front of society. We have to heal in a certain way. And I don’t think anyone is supposed to tell us how to heal.”
She adds, “Like, no one is supposed to tell a she-wolf how to lick her wounds, you know? I think that now women decide when to cry, how to cry, and until when.”
Watch Shakira prove her hips don't lie in the clip above.
