Watch: Senate Democrats dismiss impeachment of Mayorkas
Watch as Senate Democrats voted to end the Republican House of Representatives' impeachment of Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday, 17 April.
The impeachment effort hinged on two articles: one accusing the Department of Homeland Security secretary of disregarding the law by allegedly not enforcing US immigration legislation, and a second accusing him of abusing public trust.
The articles were delivered by Republicans in a procession led by House impeachment managers including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to the Senate on Tuesday.
It did not gain any Democratic votes in the House and was not expected to do any better in the Senate.
Impeachment would only occur with the vote of two-thirds of the Senate, which is controlled by Democrats by a slim margin.
Senators voted mostly on party lines to dismiss the two articles and to adjourn the trial.
