Watch Ron Burgundy criticize Will Ferrell's performance in “Despicable Me 4”: 'People started to walk out'

The "Anchorman" character, played by Will Ferrell, was not impressed with his performance as the villainous Maxime Le Mal.

Newsflash, world: San Diego’s number one newscaster Ron Burgundy has seen Despicable Me 4 and loves everything about it… except for Will Ferrell’s performance.

The Anchorman character, who is played by Ferrell, crashed The Tonight Show on Tuesday to reveal that he’d just seen a bootleg copy of the upcoming animated film and considers it to be “the greatest movie of all time” so long as Ferrell isn’t talking.

“Will? Ew,” Burgundy said, giving a thumbs down. “Will Ferrell — that’s when the movie really levels off. When that guy comes on screen, ugh, people started to walk out.”

Burgundy explained that he could actually see the effect that Ferrell’s voice had on the audience because his bootleg copy of the film was set up at the back of the theater.

“I heard a lot of like, ‘This is a good time to get some more treats,’” he recalled. “‘I don’t want to hear this guy talking anymore.’”

The fictional newscaster was not a big fan of Ferrell’s character Maxime Le Mal — a French villain who has sworn revenge on Gru (Steve Carell) and his family — either. “He does this stupid character with a French accent,” Burgundy complained. “I’m like, give me a break, guy.”

Jimmy Fallon then tried, in vain, to defend Ferrell’s honor against Burgundy’s red hot remarks. “He is hilarious in this movie,” the host asserted. To which Burgundy replied, “Is he? Well, where is he? Why isn’t he here?”

When Fallon flipped the question on Burgundy, the character suddenly found himself on the defensive. “Why are you going to ask me?” He asked as Fallon began to laugh. “I’m not his keeper. I don’t follow him around.”
