Watch your step: Flight canceled after easyJet passenger allegedly defecated on the floor

Travelers on a recent easyJet flight had to endure every passenger’s worst nightmare when the already delayed flight was canceled after a passenger allegedly defecated on the floor.

Flight EZY8054 departing from the Spanish island of Tenerife to London Gatwick on Sunday was initially delayed because the plane was overweight and luggage had to be offloaded to the next available flight, Paula Peralta, a spokesperson for the budget airline, told USA TODAY in a statement.

“The flight was subsequently delayed overnight due to the aircraft requiring additional cleaning,” Peralta added.

One passenger shared the moment it was announced the flight was canceled until the next day in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter. “(Unintelligible) defecated in the front toilet,” the crew member said in the clip. “So we’re now staying the night here.”

In the caption of the video, the poster tagged the airline and wrote that the flight was canceled “because someone took a (expletive) on the toilet floor.”

Aaran Gedhu was another passenger on the flight and told CNN that people were already upset and “tense” from the initial delay. The pilot had just announced the flight was cleared to take off in 20 minutes when the defecation incident occurred.

While the plane was grounded for about an hour, he saw two passengers go to the restroom at the front of the plane.

Shortly after, a rumor spread in the cabin that someone had defecated on the restroom floor. Gedhu said a bad smell followed.

“It was just a very uncomfortable experience,” he told CNN, but it was likely an “accident.”

Passengers were given hotel accommodations and another flight was scheduled for the next day.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and while this was outside of our control we would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused,” Peralta said.
