After months of anticipation for fans, the first trailer for Prime Video's adaptation of Red, White & Royal Blue is finally here.

The LGBTQ+ rom-com, based on Casey McQuiston's bestselling novel of the same name, stars Kissing Booth 2's Taylor Zakhar Perez as Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the first female President of the United States, Ellen Claremont (Uma Thurman).

During a trip to the UK for a royal wedding, Alex comes to blows with his royal rival Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), sending the media into a frenzy and potentially jeopardising his mother's chances of being re-elected as president.

To avoid further scandal, the pair are forced to put on a show to convince the world that they're the best of friends, but it doesn't take long for these adversaries to grow into something much, much more.

The trailer provides fans with a first look at the famous wedding conflict, which results in a wedding cake being toppled over Alex and Henry and headlines on every newspaper.

"What I need is some good old fashioned damage control," Ellen tells her son, before we're shown a montage of Alex and Henry pretending to be pals through gritted teeth.

But, by the time New Year's Eve rolls around, Alex and Henry realise they have feelings for one another and begin a secret love affair, which fans will be pleased to know involves some steamy R-rated sex scenes.

Previously speaking to Glamour about the movie and what he hopes fans will take away from it, Galitzine said: "It's a really heartwarming story. Not a lot of films like this are made, and I hope it's important for the LGBTQ+ community because there needs to be more films like this.

"I hope it resonates with everyone. I've been really touched to hear how widespread the book became and affected many people from many different backgrounds. I hope our movie can do the same because a lot of love went into it."

Red, White & Royal Blue will be released on Prime Video worldwide on August 11.
