Weekend guide (23-25 June): G-Dragon, Carouselland, Dreamworks Day

It’s going to be an exciting weekend ahead, as some of the most recognisable names in music, retail and animation arrive in Singapore.

1. DreamWorks Day
DreamWorks is bringing its first ever DreamWorks Day to Singapore, where characters from four famous animated films will be making appearances. Visitors will get the chance to rub shoulders with characters from Kung Fu Panda, Shrek, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon when they take part in the 800m Kids Dash or 5km Fun Run. Participants can also look forward to a DreamWorks-themed festival filled with games and food.

2. G-Dragon M.O.T.T.E Singapore
One of the biggest names in K-Pop is returning to Singapore, this time with his G-Dragon M.O.T.T.E World Tour. G-Dragon will be exploring the third phase of his career in this concert, and concert-goers can expect a showcase of the “loneliness and anguish hidden behind the glamorous life from his massive success”.

3. Carouselland
Get your wallets ready, because Singapore’s biggest marketplace event is happening this weekend. Some 400 of the most popular sellers on mobile marketplace Carousell will be putting up 600 booths selling new and second-hand items ranging from retro collectibles to lifestyle gadgets.

4. Flow Camp (Kids Surf Camp)
You don’t have to be grown up to learn how to surf at Wave House Sentosa’s Flow Camp. Kids get the opportunity to learn how to do basic flowboarding manoeuvres and tricks, as well as have taking part in activities such as megabounce, skateboard clinic and various beach games. Participants also get to make their own pizza lunch.

5. The Maine Live in Singapore
Catch American pop-rock band The Maine as they return to Singapore for the third time for their The Lovely, Little, Lonely World Tour. Concert-goers can expect to be serenaded with songs from the band’s newest album, released in April this year.

6. The Hive Screening: Live and Let Live
The Hive Screening is a monthly film screening for arthouse movie lovers and indie film enthusiasts. In this month’s session, The Hive Screening will be showing Live and Let Live, a documentary which examines human’s relationship with animals and veganism.

7. Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Live in Singapore
Five years after the release of his debut album, British singer-songwriter Benjamin Francis Leftwich is bringing his show to Singapore. This show will be an intimate set between the singer and the audience, and fans can expect songs such as “Mayflies”, “Summer” and “Tilikum” from his second album “After The Rain”, which was released in August last year.

8. Sons of Ben Rock Esplanade
Rock band Sons of Ben is returning after a year-long hiatus following the departure of lead singer Kyle Campbell. Guitarist and singer Chris Bong and percussionist Rafiekin Mahmood will be joining the original band members to present a new line up at the Esplanade Theatres. The band will be playing a set of old-school rock ‘n’ roll hits from the past five decades, as well as tracks from popular movies such as Back to the Future and Forrest Gump.

9. Art Day Out! at Gillman Barracks – The School Holiday Edition
Art Day Out! returns this June for a special School Holiday edition, with fun-filled activities for the young ones. Visitors can also expect new addition to the galleries’ new exhibitions, and special programmes by the Gillman Barrack tenants. Some highlights include a specially-commissioned interactive art tour by The Finger Players and an eight hour film screening and exhibition tour by NTU Centre for Contemporary Art.

10. Sake Festival Singapore 2017
Get your booze on at the Sake Festival 2017, because the festival is bringing in over 250 labels of Japanese sake from 43 sake breweries in Japan. Visitors can look forward to an array of sakes, including seasonal and limited edition brews.

11. Red Bull Gravity Challenge
Do you think you can drop an egg from 15m without it breaking? If the answer is yes, the Red Bull Gravity Challenge is for you. The team which creates the best egg-shaped machine to save the egg stands to win a 3D2N all-expense paid trip to Australia to experience the World of Red Bull.

12. Celebrate International Music Day
The French may be known for their good food and romance, but did you know that they’re also one of the first to celebrate International Music Day? The Alliance Francaise de Singapour invites you to celebrate International Music Day this Saturday. Visitors can look forward to a day of activities such as silent movies, music by French band Encore, as well as a musical story-telling session.

13. Wellness Day Out
Singapore’s first ever event to champion body positivity and self-confidence, the Wellness Day Out will be packed with activities and booths providing participants with curated expert opinions and certified information on health-related topics. Participants can expect a range of wellness-related activities, including Boot Camp Fitness, Self Defense for Women and Joint Mobility Prehab workshops.
