Wellmania star reveals Netflix has cancelled showNetflix

Wellmania star Celeste Barber has slammed the television industry as "bullshit" after Netflix cancelled the show.

The eight-part comedy series saw Barber play Liv Healy, a New York-based food writer who relocates to her home country of Australia, where she embarks on a journey of healthy living.

Following its airing in March, news of either a follow-up or axing was scarce, but Barber has revealed in a fiery video that the show will not be returning to the streaming service.

"Hi friends, I just wanted to check in and give you a little update, to let you know that Wellmania will not be renewed for another season," she began in the clip, which was shared on Instagram.

"I understand that, in the grand scheme of things and what is going on in the world at the moment, who f**king cares? But a lot of you do care and are still asking me what's happening about it.

"We found out yesterday that it's not going to be renewed – Netflix said it's something about numbers. Sure – I thought it smashed it, but I don't understand how it works. Thank you for the love and support around the show – we had so much fun.

"We had such an excellent time and the way it was received was overwhelming, so I’m bummed that I can no longer explore that excellent character – I know a lot of you said you saw yourselves in [Liv] and wanted to see more of her, but this industry is kind of bullshit."

Fans in the comments supported Barber for her statement, with one user encouraging another streaming service to pick up the series as they wrote: "Amazon Prime is where it’s at @primevideo for WELLMANIA season 2!!!!"
