West Ham vs Tottenham - LIVE!

Tottenham’s top-four hopes suffered a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham at the London Stadium. Much has been made of Spurs’ slow starts in recent weeks, but they were in front inside five minutes here, as Timo Werner played the ball across the face of goal and Brennan Johnson, promoted into the starting lineup, provided the finishing touch.

West Ham responded well though and they looked a real threat from a succession of set-pieces, with that unsurprisingly their route back into the match. Jarrod Bowen whipped in a superb delivery from the corner, and captain Kurt Zouma rose highest, turning the ball into the far corner off his back to get West Ham on terms 15 minutes after they had fallen behind.

After the sides went in level at the break, it was the Hammers who started the better after half-time. Michail Antonio forced Guglielmo Vicario into action and the striker then wasted a huge chance to put the home side in front, sending a tame effort straight at the goalkeeper when clean through on goal. Spurs increasingly took control in the final 20 minutes but could not create a clear-cut chance, as they were forced to settle for a draw that leaves them two points behind Aston Villa, who travel to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

"Longevity in the game means something, especially at this level. Whether it was at Everton or the difficult job he had at Man United, he went abroad and has never stopped coaching. I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham and anyone that thinks otherwise...

"They have some high-quality footballers in that team and I think they're going to get better. I guess it's a bit of today's world we live in where there is always a short-term reflex to everything that happens, but I've got no doubt he is one of the outstanding managers in the game.”

Johnson came off the bench at half-time and set up both goals as Spurs recovered from behind to beat Luton 2-1 on Saturday.

"Brennan was super on the weekend," Postecoglou said.

"He's still young, he's developing. He's moved to a big club where there's big expectations when you have a big transfer fee. But for the most part I think he's handled it really well.

"He's another one understanding more and more how we want to play and he's adjusting to it.

"It was always going to be a tough introduction for a young player, moving to a big club for a transfer fee. And it's always harder for attacking players because they are usually measured on one thing: goals and assists. But I think he's contributing in more [ways] than just that."

Postecoglou expecting more Spurs comebacks

Ange Postecoglou is not surprised by Tottenham's repeated comebacks this season and says they are a result of his team's consistent style of play.

Postecoglou's Spurs have won 22 points from losing positions, second only in the top-flight to Liverpool's 26, and Saturday's 2-1 win over Luton was the fourth time in five home games they have come from a goal down to win.

"It is something that's been consistent throughout my coaching career," the head coach said.

"If you go back right to the very start, all of my teams had that trademark of being able to turn around results or winning games late. When you're so committed to playing a certain way, the score almost becomes irrelevant.

"With a lot of teams, when they fall behind they have to either change their approach or find a different approach or when they're winning they maybe change their approach.

"With us whether we're winning or losing we won't change our approach. Like at the weekend [against Luton], when we concede it's not like the team are going 'what do we do now?'

"We just keep going and when there is that sort of clarity of purpose it makes it easier for the players to look for the solutions in the way we play rather than looking for something that is not a constant in our gameplan.”

Moyes calls for Phillips support

David Moyes has urged West Ham fans to lay off Kalvin Phillips and insisted the midfielder can still make a success of his so-far doomed loan spell.

Phillips’s cursed stint in east London plunged to new depths on Saturday when he was involved in a confrontation with a supporter after giving away a penalty in the Hammers’s dramatic 4-3 defeat at Newcastle.

In a video shared widely on social media, a fan is heard calling Phillips “useless” as he boards the team bus outside St. James’s Park. The midfielder then responds by raising his middle-finger from behind the coach windscreen.

Phillips had been penalised for a foul on Anthony Gordon only minutes after coming off the bench. At that stage, Moyes’s side led 3-1, but the incident proved a key turning point as the Toon roared back to snatch a remarkable comeback victory.

Despite his dreadful form, however, with Edson Alvarez still suspended, Moyes may again be forced to call on Phillips tonight.

“Kalvin's a human being and can do things which we all do at different times,” Moyes said of the 28-year-old’s middle-fingered salute. “What he needs is support behind him, people to help him, and we're going to stand with him help him as much as we possibly can. Obviously, we need all out supporters to give all our players, whoever it is, their support.

“He's fine, he's back training and we've all moved on from the weekend. We've got a big game coming up and we're getting ready for that now.”

Postecoglou: Spurs will be in title race next season

Ange Postecoglou expects Tottenham to be in the Premier League title race next season and says he will not “let the club rest” on where they finish this campaign.

Postecoglou has consistently refused to rule Spurs out of this season’s title equation, but with nine games to play, including tonight’s derby at West Ham, they are 11 points behind leaders Liverpool and effectively battling with Aston Villa for fourth place.

The Australian has previously warned it will take time to build a squad capable of competing for the biggest honours.

But asked if he expects Spurs to be in the title race in 12 months, Postecoglou told Standard Sport: “I hope so, or why am I doing what I’m doing? That’s why I came to the club.

“As somebody said to me last week, ‘Just do your job, Ange’. And my job is to try to bring success - and if you don’t think you’re going to be in the title race in 12 months’ time, then I don’t know why I’m here.”

Moyes searching for answers

With a characteristically thrilling 3-3 draw at home to MK Dons on Monday, Notts County assumed the novel position of being both League Two's best attacking side and its worst at defending; 80 goals scored, 79 conceded, 159 in total across just 41 matches.

Unsurprisingly, the Premier League does not quite have an equivalent, but West Ham are perhaps the closest thing, showcased in Saturday's 4-3 reverse at Newcastle.

Few teams in the division boast a frontline as talented and dynamic as that of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, who along with Michail Antonio all provided at least one goal or assist in sending the Hammers into a 3-1 lead.

However, no team outside the relegation zone, except Brentford, has conceded more goals than the Hammers' 54, the last three of which came in the space of 13 minutes to power the Toon to their dramatic late win.

Given the conjecture around David Moyes's future revolves largely around a perceived lack of entertainment, that is a peculiar state of affairs. It is a puzzle Moyes has wrestled with for much of the campaign, yet the solution seems no clearer.

Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has no fresh injury concerns to contend with.

Micky van de Ven returned to the bench for Saturday's late win over Luton but is likely to come back into the XI at the expense of Radu Dragusin, while Brennan Johnson pushing for a start after a decisive display from the bench.

Dejan Kulusevski is the most likely player to make way for the Wales international, which would leave Spurs with two speedy and direct wingers in Johnson and Timo Werner either side of captain Heung-min Son.

Postecoglou could also consider freshening up his midfield following another below-par display from Yves Bissouma at the weekend.

Rodrigo Bentancur is an option to come into the side but the Uruguayan is arguably more suited to a more advanced role.

Richarlison came through another cameo against the Hatters unscathed but may have to settle for a place on the bench again, while Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon remained sidelined long-term.

West Ham will not have first-choice goalkeeper Alphonse Areola available tonight.

The Frenchman suffered a groin problem during the first half of Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 defeat at Newcastle and, despite initially being able to carry on, was forced off at the break.

“He’s hurt his groin and at the moment it looks like he’s unlikely to start,” Moyes said in his pre-match press conference. “We hope it’s not too serious, but he’s not going to be available.

“We don’t see it as being something too serious, so hopefully he might be back quite quickly.”

Areola’s absence means Lukasz Fabianski is set to deputise in goal but Moyes has no other fresh injury concerns ahead of the London derby.

Centre-back Nayef Aguerd is also back in training after missing the trip to St. James’s Park but it remains to be seen whether Moyes chooses to send the Moroccan back into action.

Edson Alvarez remains out as he serves the second match of his two-game suspension.
