What to watch on TV this week: The 7 best shows, from Better to the BAFTAs

BBC One looks determined to replace Happy Valley with a new crime drama obsession - Brink's-Mat robbery series The Gold started last week and continues on Sunday, while this week sees the launch of Yorkshire detective drama Better.

Over on ITVX, there's another must-see drama as acclaimed Australian series The Twelve finds a UK home, while The Masked Singer unmasks its winner on ITV1 on Saturday.

Finish off the week with a celebration of the best in film over the last year as the BAFTAs airs on BBC One on Sunday.

A gritty detective drama set in West Yorkshire, featuring a tough female cop...sound familiar?

Better is the BBC's newest crime series, starring Leila Farzad and Andrew Buchan as two unlikely allies whose partnership could be disastrous if it is uncovered.

Corrupt detective Lou is determined to lead a better life after a family crisis, but shaking off the shackles of gangster Col is easier said than done.

The Piano - Channel 4 - Wednesday, 9pm

Claudia Winkleman hosts an emotional search for hidden gem pianists, with the help of popstar Mika.

They'll be listening to auditionees of all ages take centre stage at public pianos in train stations around the UK, but the would-be musicians have no idea that a prize to play to thousands at the Royal Festival Hall is up for grabs.

The Twelve - ITVX - Thursday

Sam Neill stars in this Australian series about 12 jurors called to decide the fate of a woman accused of murdering her niece.

It delves into the backgrounds, personal lives and prejudices of each of the jurors and has been a huge hit Down Under.

Prue and Danny's Death Road Trip - Channel 4 - Thursday, 9pm

Prue Leith and her son Danny Kruger have hit headlines a number of times for their clashing views on assisted dying - Leith is patron of pressure group Dignity in Dying, while Conservative MP Kruger chairs group Dying Well and opposes any change to the law.

Together, they take a thought-provoking road trip across the US and Canada to learn about the situation elsewhere, and discuss their views.

Everyone's favourite singing contest has reached the grand final, where double excitement lies not just in who wins, but who is behind each of the remaining masks.

Awards season comes to London, where Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond host proceedings as the year's best films are recognised.

Up for trophies are All Quiet On The Western Front, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Banshees of Inisherin and Elvis, and for the first time ever the ceremony's broadcast will include a live announcement of the winners for the final four categories.
