Wingstop rolls out ‘Blazed & Glazed’ wing flavor for 4/20

Yahoo Finance Live’s anchors discuss Wingstop’s limited edition 4/20 ‘Blazed & Glazed’ wing flavor offering.

Video transcript

JULIE HYMAN: We haven't talked about it yesterday, but it is, indeed, April 20, a.k.a. 4/20. That is the holiday, so to speak, the date that weed activists tend to celebrate marijuana, push for better legalization. I think New Jersey is selling legal recreational marijuana as of tomorrow. They didn't make it today, because they were afraid it would be too overwhelming in terms of demand. We can't celebrate on set in certain ways, but we can in others, perhaps. And so our friends at Wingstop have launched this new blazed, glazed flavor. It's designed somehow to taste like--

BRIAN SOZZI: And look a little bit-- looks like-- I don't know-- unclear what the actual spice is, but I'm channeling my inner Bobby Flay here. It looks a little oregano-like.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Yeah, the aromatics are pretty good.

BRIAN SOZZI: Aromatics.

BRIAN CHEUNG: It seems like it's not-- I mean, not like I would know, but the smell of MJ, you know? But I mean, it's--

BRIAN SOZZI: I love that you're rolling up your sleeves. You have a wet rag. Nobody can see it on the chair.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Well, I have to--

BRIAN SOZZI: Let's see the wet rag.

BRIAN CHEUNG: I got to host the 11:00 AM show.

BRIAN SOZZI: Let's see the wet rag. Let's see the wet rag.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Yeah, I got to--

BRIAN SOZZI: Let's see the wet rag.

BRIAN CHEUNG: I got to anchor the show after this.

BRIAN SOZZI: He's got the wet rag, OK.

BRIAN CHEUNG: I don't even know how I ended up getting

BRIAN SOZZI: That's the name of your band, isn't it? Wet Leg. Or Wet Rag. All right, well, give me some of that.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Yeah, let's give it a try.

JULIE HYMAN: Band, Wet Leg.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Chowing down with Cheung, if you will.

BRIAN SOZZI: OK, all right, RIP Heidi Cheung. Here we go.

BRIAN CHEUNG: She's still--

JULIE HYMAN: Not actual. She's not-- I'll just watch you guys.

BRIAN SOZZI: Are you good? OK.

JULIE HYMAN: I'm good. I'm all set.

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah, I'm looking for the aromatics, like Brian suggested.

BRIAN CHEUNG: I mean, it's got a nice mouthfeel. A good tone to it.

BRIAN SOZZI: Hmm.

BRIAN CHEUNG: I mean, it tastes-- it just tastes like a sweet wing, you know? And again, to be clear, no THC in this.

BRIAN SOZZI: No THC.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Right?

BRIAN SOZZI: I'm not getting high off eating these wings.

BRIAN CHEUNG: No.

BRIAN SOZZI: They're kind of sweet, but it might be oregano.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Mm-hmm.

BRIAN SOZZI: So you're a man.

JULIE HYMAN: So I guess this is-- I guess this is--

BRIAN SOZZI: I'm sitting here eating wings with a fork.

JULIE HYMAN: --Wingstop's attempt to--

BRIAN SOZZI: I'm going viral.

JULIE HYMAN: --remind people that they can eat wings, as they're doing other things. The Wingstop's shares, though, I don't know if it's going to help matters there. The stock has been an underperformer.

BRIAN SOZZI: Have a moment.

JULIE HYMAN: I'm trying to take it back here, too.

BRIAN SOZZI: Shares are down--

BRIAN CHEUNG: And these aren't thighs, by the way.

BRIAN SOZZI: --37% year to date.

JULIE HYMAN: Yeah.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Are these thighs, Brian? Because, remember, you know, price inflation.

JULIE HYMAN: These are wings. They haven't-- these are not the Thighstops.

BRIAN SOZZI: No. How about a moment?

BRIAN CHEUNG: You know what's weird?

BRIAN SOZZI: Sorry.

BRIAN CHEUNG: I'm getting kind of thirsty right now.

BRIAN SOZZI: Oh, yeah?

JULIE HYMAN: Is that weird?

BRIAN CHEUNG: Sometimes you get cotton mouth, you know, from--

JULIE HYMAN: Don't you also get thirsty when you eat wings?

BRIAN CHEUNG: Yeah, that's true.

JULIE HYMAN: Am I right?

BRIAN SOZZI: Want to try boneless?

BRIAN CHEUNG: Yeah, let me try boneless.

BRIAN SOZZI: This guy is going right in.

BRIAN CHEUNG: The thing is, I don't want to dip it in the sauce because I want to get the raw-- I really want to get the full--

BRIAN SOZZI: You search for aromatics.

BRIAN CHEUNG: Get the notes and the tone--

BRIAN SOZZI: Do what you gotta do, baby.

BRIAN CHEUNG: --of the wings.

BRIAN SOZZI: I'm having breakfast right now. Sure.

JULIE HYMAN: Um, yeah.
