The Witcher star explains bizarre Jaskier twist in Blood Origin prequel

The Witcher: Blood Origin spoilers follow.

The Witcher: Blood Origin star Joey Batey has opened up about the bizarre twist involving everyone's favourite bard Jaskier.

At the beginning of the series, there are two Jaskiers because Minnie Driver’s character, the shape-shifting Seanchai, takes his form.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Batey explained the bizarre situation of having Driver also play Batey's role.

"Multijasking? That’s what we started to call it," Batey joked. "It was actually quite bizarre, because for some reason, my stand-in was about four or five inches shorter than me, so I had to sort of crouch down to his level quite a lot.

"No, it was really fun. I adlib a lot in the show. I dance around the lines. The problem was, this is the first time I’ve been on the receiving end of that."

Batey's co-star Lenny Henry (who plays Chief Druid Balor) then joked that the actor's ad-libbing is "really annoying," to which Batey replied: "I can only apologise to every single person I’ve worked with.

"I’m like, 'I’m a nightmare. I’m so sorry.'"

Batey went on to joke: "[Henry] was actually playing Minnie Driver at the time. You were probably aware of this. But no, it was really fun. It was really, really fun."

The actor also recently debunked a fan theory that proposed he was immortal. "OK, off the record, he’s immortal. No, no, no," Batey said.

"To this question, I will always say there’s one quote in the book when someone’s describing Jaskier: he’s pushing 40, he looks 30, he thinks he’s 20, and he acts like he’s 10. And that pretty much sums him up.

"And if you look at photos of me from 10, 15 years ago, I haven’t changed. I have a child’s face anyway. In terms of immortality, no comment. But we all know it?"

The Witcher seasons 1-2 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 3 is in production, and spin-off The Witcher: Blood Origin is now streaming on Netflix.
