WME & Curate Sign Ariane Louis-Seize, Filmmaker Behind Venice Prize-Winner ‘Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person’

EXCLUSIVE: Following the successful Venice debut of her first feature, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person, French-Canadian filmmaker Ariane Louis-Seize has taken on new reps at WME and Curate Management.

Louis-Seize’s French-language dramedy, which she co-wrote and directed, tells the story of the teenage Sasha (played by Sara Montpetit), who unlike other vampires, needs to feel a personal connection to her chosen prey. The narrative takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Paul (Félix-Antoine Bénard), a disenchanted young man convinced that life has nothing left to offer him.

As Sasha befriends Paul, an unusual proposition emerge, with Paul willingly stepping into the role of her next meal. But the bizarre arrangement hits a snag due to Sasha’s unique struggle with empathy.

After winning the Best Director award in the Giornate degli Autori program of the Venice Film Festival, Humanist Vampire went on to make its North American premiere at TIFF and win numerous awards internationally, including the Jean-Marc Vallée Discovery Award at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards and the award for Best Canadian Film at the Festival du nouveau cinema. Most recently, the film was selected by TIFF for its Canada’s Top Ten features list for 2023.

Based out of Montreal, Louis-Seize made her directorial debut with the short film Wild Skin, a fantasy drama about a solitary woman disturbed by the discovery of a baby python in her apartment, which traveled to more than 50 festivals worldwide. Other acclaimed shorts from the filmmaker include 2017’s Little Waves, 2019’s The Depths and 2020’s Shooting Star.
