Woman in court charged with murder of her 10-year-old daughter

A woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her 10-year-old daughter.

Jaskirat Kaur, also known as Jasmine Kang, appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

She was arrested after West Midlands Police officers found Shay Kang's body at a property in Rowley Regis on Monday.

Kaur, dressed in a grey T-shirt and jogging bottoms, spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth.

The 33-year-old was remanded in custody - and the case was adjourned for a further hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.

A cordon remains in place at the end-of-terrace house where Shay was found.

A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of death.

Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our thoughts remain with Shay's family and friends.

"Her tragic death has had a profound impact on those who knew her as well as the wider community.

"We ask that they are left to grieve in private as our enquiries continue."
