An elderly woman whose left hand was severed by lift doors won’t have it reattached, a newspaper reported.

Doctors at the National University Hospital (NUH) failed to reattach the hand of 85-year-old Khoo Bee Hua after a four-hour surgery, The New Paper on Sunday (TNPS) reported. She came out of surgery early Saturday (Oct 10) morning, the report said.

Khoo was distraught and cried “no more hand” to her 59-year-old son Mr Lee at NUH, TNPS added.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said previously in a statement that Khoo had her hand trapped between the lift doors of a HDB block along Tah Ching Road on Friday (9 Oct).

She sustained a serious injury to her hand, the SCDF said. Her hand was retrieved by paramedics, packaged in ice and taken to NUH.

Residents told TNPS that the lifts at Blk 322, where the accident happened, have been problematic. The affected lift has been suspended from use pending investigations, the newspaper said.
