The 2022 World Cup is upon us.

The tournament kicked off Sunday with hosts Qatar against Ecuador. It was the only game of the day ahead of three games on Monday. It ended 2-0 in favor of the visiting team thanks to a first-half brace by Enner Valencia.

Qatar's mishmash of naturalized foreigners and nondescript veterans couldn't compete with La Tri and showed why they might be the worst of the 32 teams at their own tournament. After being outclassed in its first match on the world stage, it seems years of Qatari government investment in soccer did not pay off.
