Takshashila, also known as Taxila, flourished from 600 BC to 500 AD, in the kingdom of Gandhar. 68 subjects were taught at this university, which once had 10,500 students from various places including Babylon, Greece, Syria, and China. Experienced masters such as Kautilya and Vishnu Sharma taught the vedas, languages, grammar, philosophy, medicine, surgery, politics, complex mathematical calculations and other intense subjects. This full-fledged university stood strong until destroyed by invaders.
