Triple H made a special appearance on Friday's edition of WWE SmackDown (October 13) to introduce the brand's new General Manager.

Adam Pearce, who had been the brand's GM, was moved to Monday Night Raw, with Nick Aldis being revealed as the new man in charge on Friday nights.

Nick Aldis isn't a familiar name to WWE fans, with Friday marking his first appearance on WWE television. But the 36-year-old from Norfolk, England, has had a long career in professional wrestling, which included a very important match with one of WWE's biggest stars.

Aldis got his first big break when he was signed to Impact Wrestling (then TNA) in late 2008.

Working under the name Magnus, Aldis would spend nearly eight years in Impact during which he would capture the Tag Team Championship twice (once with Samoa Joe) and hold the World Championship for 128 days.

Following his departure from Impact, Aldis teamed with Samoa Joe in Pro Wrestling Noah where they won the GHC Tag Team Championship. He then signed with Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling promotion, where he worked until the company merged with Impact in 2017.

Aldis would go on to make appearances on Impact in 2017 until shortly after he lost the GFW Global Championship. It was then reported that Aldis had declined to sign with Impact, thus ending his short-lived return to the company.

His next move would perhaps be his greatest legacy as Aldis joined Billy Corgan's NWA in late 2017, winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship that December.

Aldis' most famous defence of the championship would be against Cody Rhodes at All In, the event that would famously contribute to the creation of AEW.

Rhodes would defeat Aldis at All In but drop the belt back to him just 50 days later. Aldis' second reign as NWA Champion would go on to last over 1,000 days.

In November 2022, Aldis announced he was leaving NWA, telling his Instagram subscribers that he wasn't happy with the promotion's "current direction." Shortly after Aldis' comments, Tyrus would win the NWA Championship.

Following his departure from NWA, Aldis was briefly back in Impact, making his return at Rebellion in April 2023. However by August Aldis was gone again with it being reported he had received a tryout as a producer with WWE. He made his on-screen WWE debut two months later.

In what was a significant moment for many watching, on SmackDown, Aldis was seen standing in-between Cody and Roman Reigns as they came face-to-face for the first time in months.

Cody is still trying to 'finish the story' and defeat Roman for the WWE Universal Championship so he can hold the WWE Championship that his father Dusty Rhodes never won.

But back at All In, Cody had finished another story when he defeated Aldis for the NWA Championship that his father famously held.

Now, in his onscreen role as GM of SmackDown, many fans will be wondering how long it will be before Aldis trades his suave suits for his wrestling boots again, especially as one of his greatest opponents is now a major star in WWE.
