The truth is out there–and also at The Grove in Los Angeles.

Ahead of “The X-Files” event series premiere on Sunday, Fox has set up a UFO crash landing at the popular shopping complex.

“We wanted to do something big, bold, special and fun for these loyal fans to mark the return of ‘The X-Files,'” Fox TV group marketing and communications executive vice president Shannon Ryan told TheWrap. “And we thought. what better way to celebrate the return of this incredible show than to crash a UFO into the center of Los Angeles?”

Fox’s production team worked with a structural engineer to develop the UFO. It took three weeks to create the custom design of the ship and pull together the proper materials to bring it to life, Ryan told us.

“The actual build took 18 days and nearly 220 hours to complete,” she said. “A custom audio track was also mixed and speakers were placed inside the UFO to create the illusion that it’s malfunctioning and settling into the ground. All of these elements combined create a fully immersive experience for fans.”

During its initial nine-season run, “The X-Files” became one of the most successful television dramas of all time, hitting a peak ratings high in 1997 when more than 27 million people tuned into the season 5 premiere.
