New X-ray machine installed in hospital revamp
A new X-ray machine has been installed as part of a renovation of a diagnostics department at a Brighton hospital.
The fluoroscopy suite of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital has been redecorated with a floor-to-ceiling under-the-sea theme.
In partnership with Sussex company, Canon Medical Systems, the suite has been transformed to allow clinicians to see a broader age range of patients with a variety of conditions.
Darren Sander, lead superintendent radiographer at the hospital, said: "We gained far more than a new scanner. We gained a whole new and improved X-ray experience."
The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital provides a 24-hour, year-round, fluoroscopy service for newborns through to 17-year-olds requiring specialist diagnostic scans.
Canon Medical said in a statement that the new Ultimax-i X-ray system "reduces the need for patient movement", adding: "The smoother the scanning process, the better the child’s experience, helping to reduce fear and anxiety during the scan."
To appeal to children – many of whom have additional needs – the suite now has LED mood lighting to create a calming atmosphere and a ceiling-mounted interactive projector with games and challenges for patients.
