XL bully shot after attacking and injuring a woman in Manchester
An XL bully dog was shot by police after attacking the public and injuring a woman in Manchester.
Officers were called to a residential road in Eccles after receiving reports of a "dangerously out of control" dog, according to a statement from Greater Manchester Police.
A video of the incident shows the officers shooting at the dog as it runs down the road.
A man can be heard pleading with the officers not to kill his dog.
Officers and members of the public "were unable to regain control of the dog", said the force, adding destroying the dog was a "last possible option".
"We understand the concern this will raise within the community but our officers have a duty to act in challenging situations on a regular basis with the aim of keeping everyone safe," said the statement.
Two men were later arrested and detained after confronting officers.
The woman victim is still receiving treatment for her injuries.
Earlier this month, 23-year-old Nicole Morey was mauled to death in Ireland by an XL bully.
She had previously posted videos appearing to show her as the owner of several XL bullys.
One of her videos of the dogs is captioned: "But if one of us dies - I hope I die first."
The video ends with a caption reading: "Love my family."

In February, it became a criminal offence to own the XL bully breed in England and Wales without an exemption certificate.
Anyone who owns one of the dogs must have had the animal neutered, have it microchipped and keep it muzzled and on a lead in public, among other restrictions.
The government moved to ban XL bullys following a series of attacks on people and other dogs.
