Yazidi Girl Reunited With Family After Years in Islamic State Captivity

A local Iraqi media outlet released a video on July 13 showing a Yazidi girl who had been held captive by Islamic State reunited with her family.

According to a woman speaking in the video, the girl came to her house in Zanjili in Old Mosul last month, apparently having escaped from her captors during the advance by Iraqi forces into Old Mosul.

According to Iraqi officials, troops entering Old Mosul were alerted to the girl’s presence in the local woman’s house. An officer speaking in the video says they were able to find her and reunite her with her family, who are said to be from Sinjar.

The father of the girl describes the day he was reunited with his daughter as the most beautiful day of his life. He adds that he hadn’t seen here for more than three years.
