YouTube star Ben Potter’s cause of death revealed

The internet star, known as Comicstorian, died at the scene of the June 8th car crash.

A cause of death has been revealed for YouTube personality Ben Potter, days after his wife announced his death in an "unfortunate accident."

Known by fans as Comicstorian, the 40-year-old internet star was killed in a single-vehicle car crash on Saturday, June 8. In a statement shared with Entertainment Weekly, the Colorado State Patrol revealed that the incident occurred at 9:19 a.m. on I-25 near Fort Collins.

“The Windsor resident was southbound on I-25 at milepost 267.5 when his silver Toyota 4Runner traveled off the right shoulder of the interstate,” the release explained. “He continued to cross over the frontage road paralleling the interstate before rolling his vehicle multiple times.”

Potter was the only occupant of the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved, CSP stated. Though he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, Potter “succumbed to injuries from the crash while at the scene.”

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing. Impairment and excessive speed do not appear to be factors at this time, CSP added.

A YouTube content creator who started his channel in 2014, Potter amassed a massive following with his dramatic comic book readings. He created longform audio dramas featuring characters from the DC and Marvel universe, releasing nearly 4,000 videos in his decade on the website and accruing over 3 million followers.

His wife, Nathalie, shared the news of Potter’s death on Monday, adding that she plans to "preserve everything" her husband has built.

“His channel was one of his greatest accomplishments, and while we all need our time to mourn him, I know he wouldn't want it to end like this,” she wrote. “Ben spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. It was through his love of exciting stories and well written characters that got him started on YouTube.”

She continued, “The team and I want to keep that going. To honor him by continuing to tell great stories by great people, as well as to keep the memory of our very own superhero alive. We supported each other on everything we wanted to do and I'm not about to stop now.”
